A hotel night to end our Japanese adventure – Day 86 – Nov 27, 2025

Today is move out day. We’re heading to a hotel near the airport for our last night in Japan, and we’re feverishly packing this morning. When it’s 9.30am, we look around and we’re more or less done! We decide to head out for some brunch, as we’ve eaten everything in the kitchen, and we’re still hungry.

There’s a café about half way to the train station that always make us stop and sniff the air, so we aim for that this morning. The entrance is like a bakery, and then you move further into the café for a sit in breakfast experience.

We have wildly different breakfasts this morning. Téa gets excited and wants everything. Joe wants only toast and coffee, but orders the wrong thing and gets a ham with melted cheese toast. I order little, because I know Téa will not eat everything. But little miss I want dessert for breakfast ALSO wants a piece of everyone’s breakfast. Daddy, can I have your egg? Téa, can I have your hot dog? Mommy, can I have your toast? So it all evens out.

Tired but happy

In the end, we all roll out of the café full and excited for our next adventure. Of course it’s sad leaving Osaka, and we say goodbye to all the things we pass on our walk back to the AirBnb.

At 1.20pm, our driver is outside. We haul our now three big suitcases and two small suitcases, with one backpack each and a duffle bag, out to the van. (Our luggage didn’t quite double in Japan, like most tourists report, but we added one medium sized suitcase, replaced one of the small ones that was too broken to continue on, and we are using a duffle bag we had packed in our suitcase when we arrived. Not bad, right?)

As luck would have it, our driver CAN and will drop us off at the hotel instead of at the airport (because really, it’s a shorter distance and much less trouble, so why not?), so after an hour of traffic and first time in a car since Kyoto, we arrive at the Kansai Airport Washington Hotel. We are asked to pay $20 to check in at 2.15pm when scheduled check in starts at 3pm (my fellow hotel workers will know why this irked me), but they did upgrade us to a (slightly) larger room.

Time to finally relax and to eat some of the snacks so we don’t have quite as much to carry on the flight in the morning. These are the smallest Pringles we’ve ever seen!

We’re tired and we know we have a very early start tomorrow morning, so we hang out in our hotel room, and decide to go to the hotel restaurant for dinner when they open at 5pm. When the magic hour comes around, we head down to the freezing cold restaurant (I had to go back upstairs to get extra clothes, it was so cold!), and peruse the very limited menu. The reason we planned on eating here, was their clever poster with a picture of a hamburger on it. Little did we know that it was a wagyu burger at $22CA. BUT, Téa still got her burger, all Maylin wanted was “rice and soup”, I wanted the steak, and Joe had a seafood spaghetti.

I present to you, the smallest piece of steak ever! I guess that’s what the side order of rice, soup and salad is meant for, to bulk up my main course! The meat was more marble than meat, but oh so tasty. The sauce was nice, the tablespoon of potato purée was silky, and the roasted veg were as cold as the room.

And Téa was so happy with her burger, she couldn’t stop smiling.

After our early dinner, it was time for showers and an early bedtime. The hotel had a 24/7 convenience store on the 2nd floor, so we picked up some simple sandwiches for breakfast, as we would be leaving on the 6am shuttle to the airport. Of course Maylin said she was hungry at 8.30pm, so ate her breakfast before bed instead…

Tomorrow we leave Japan and fly through Shanghai to Bangkok!
