Maylin starts throwing up around 1am. She stops around 6am, and falls into a deep, exhausted sleep. Joe takes Téa off property to a breakfast restaurant in the neighbourhood, and Maylin is still asleep when they get back. I go down to the buffet breakfast to eat, and bring Maylin back a slice of toast to see if she can keep something down.

Hers: Eggs Benedict with bacon

Then it’s Téa and my turn. By the time we are ready to leave, Maylin is awake, eating toast, and chatty. We decide to start our day at Terminal 21, as the mall is in short distance from the hotel, and look! The tuktuk is about to leave! We go on a bumpy ride to the mall, just in case Joe and Maylin feel like joining us once she’s eaten her toast.

Téa and I try (but don’t succeed) to find the floor where we saw the “design your own sandals” store I wanted to revisit, and as if by magic find ourselves back at the Hollywood floor, where the popcorn scent encourages a snack stop while we wait for word from Joe about Maylin.

Maylin is now back asleep, and Téa and I venture further. We hop on a skytrain from Terminal 21 to the station just called Siam, the old name for Thailand. Maybe this is the centre of Thailand? Here we find SiamParagon, a mall Joe had on his list for their aquarium in the basement. Téa and I decide to snack our way through the mall instead of going to the aquarium. We start with a berry yogurt smoothie (her) and a mango milk smoothie (me) in the basement at the Gourmet Eats market floor. Our smoothies are nice and freezing cold, so we take them outside to a bench to enjoy them in the heat.

When we head back inside, we soon realize this mall is not exactly created with our wallets in mind. There are Rolls Royce, Tesla and Porche dealerships on one floor!

We do find one floor that’s about half toy store, book store, stationary store and amazingly creative wooden toy store, so we spend quite some time there.

At 2pm, we sit down for lunch. I order something new, exciting and spicy(!), while Téa wants what Maylin had a couple of days ago, chicken skewers with peanut satay sauce. Téa never actually eats the spicy sauce, but she enjoys the meat sticks, and even better? Today they are served with toast! We order a juice each, and have a lovely lunch together.

While we’ve been gone, Joe has ordered a fried rice dish, in the hopes of getting some food into Maylin. She eats a spoonful here and there, and goes back to sleep.
Téa and I have to be back for 4pm, and we walk in the room at 3.55pm. From 4pm to 5pm, the hotel offers “chocolate hour”, and we’ve missed it every single day of our stay so far. This is our last chance, and we are having the free chocolate, gosh darn it! Even Maylin comes down to the restaurant, and nibbles on a couple of Ritz crackers. There’s a chocolate fountain with items to dip, a lemon cake, a berry cheese cake, fresh fruits, a Black Forest cake, rolled Thai cookies, and dark, milk and white chocolate bark. Even Joe comes down from the room to join us. I’m underwhelmed, and unfortunately none of these satisfy my chocolate cravings. Even the bark and the chocolate fountain taste… watered out? Dull? I’m perfectly ok with only having visited this event once in our five night stay.

When we go back up into the room, Maylin is sick again. Obviously no dinner tonight, just more liquids and rest. I give her some Tylenol and keep her hydrated, while Joe and Téa go out to find food to bring back for dinner. They find a spicy chicken over rice for Joe, chicken wings for Téa, and all I asked for was fresh papaya and a mango sticky rice to share for dessert. We have a tasty dinner while perched on beds and watching Téa’s favourite show “Just Add Magic”. We pack up a bit, and then tuck in for our last night in Bangkok.

Poor Maylin. I hope she feels better in time to travel.
Thankfully, our journey to Hua Hin went well, but her troubles weren’t quite over just yet…
