I guess I must have gotten bit by something last night at the market, because my feet are ITCHY! I count five bug bites, four on my right and one on my left ankle. I quickly grab my trusty Japanese anti itch creams from our first three weeks in the Osaka AirBnb, because if you read about THAT ordeal, you know I was itchy for a while there…
Once that was done, we could get on with our lives, and of course breakfast comes first, then comes school work. Mondays are for Social Studies, with a bit of math added on. Maylin completed her Grade 1 book math section, and is on to the Grade 2 book! (Ok now I don’t regret bringing it as much, even though these are big and bulky books to carry around the world…)
Because it’s hard to sit still and do school work when we’re so far away from saintly teachers (have I mentioned how much more I admire teachers after having these two very cute students drive me absolutely bonkers?) and classmates, we have to motivate and encourage by whatever means we have at hand. Today, that are Kyoto cat candies. These were meant for someone else, but unfortunately did not make it into the box when it was shipped away, so instead, we are eating them today, and reaching out to the intended recipient.

Joe headed out to stock up on water and other essentials while we were studying, and came home with several items that were NOT on his list. This was the first thing we opened:

After school work, Joe and I got into a groove of work/blog/trip planning, so he decided to make lunch at home. He cooked up some pasta, veggies and fish, and we kept on trucking. After we were all done our work, of course we have to make time for the most important post in any day here: Swimming!
Today we even get Joe to join us at the pool, and it’s crowded. Why is it so crowded? And why is that one boy such a bully? We avoid him and his fans by switching pools. Luckily our complex has no less than 9 pools. Four on the north side, four on the south side, and one kids paradise play area at the beach end. The four on the north side are in the sun all day long, and the most popular of all the pools. The south pools are hardly ever touched, by us and by others, as they are in the shade and FREEZING cold. I don’t know just how cold they are, and they may not be that bad, but we have a slightly less cold pool right next to it, so we are going to choose the north side pools, every time.
After swimming and showers, we head out for dinner. I had seen a place across the road and towards the night markets that looked nice, with lots of diners every time we walked by, so we head there. It is a touristy restaurant, but we don’t have much of a choice. There are lots of restaurants around, but it is a tourist town, so we don’t have lots of places where locals eat that we know of.
We head out and look for the restaurant name, as everything looks different from the close up side of the street. We are approached by a server and I ask her the name of her restaurant, and she says “Wine About Proper Tea”. We tell her we’re looking for a different restaurant, and keep walking, but that’s the last building for a bit, so something doesn’t feel right. I go back and ask if maybe they have two names, I was looking for the one called “Larb Ped Sakon”. Oh yes, she says, they’ve changed names, it’s the right restaurant! “Wine about Proper Tea” because they’re sharing a building with a Property Broker, I’m guessing?
Everybody gets a fancy drink this evening, the girls have a mango smoothie each (because they’re sold out of all other flavours), I have a Thai Tea slushie, and Joe has his first Chang beer!

On our way home, we wanted to get some papaya for dessert, so off to the papaya cart lady we went! Today, there was a different fruit cart parked by the side of the road in addition to papaya lady, with STRAWBERRIES! These are NOT normal in fresh form around these parts, and the little old lady selling bags of tiny strawberries along the road this evening knew to ask their worth. There were bags selling at 400THB, 200THB and 100THB. In comparison, my container of papaya is 35THB.

Fruits and movie snacks in hand, we head home and watch a movie before bed. I feel like I haven’t moved all day, just from the condo down to the pool, to across the street and to down the road. Is this what our weekdays will be like in Hua Hin? I’m also dying to scratch my itchy bites, but I’m trying my best not to. I put some medicated cream on them, and hope they’ll feel better tomorrow… Wish me luck!
