A strong and violent thunder storm woke us up this morning! Loud and close, the thunder and lightning was quite the show, but there is something about the sound of a torrential downpour on these roofs that puts me right into cozy mode.
Mondays are for Social Science. Both Téa and Maylin had some technical and emotional difficulties today, which I guess is normal on a Monday morning after a fun filled weekend?
It stopped raining, so after school and a quick lunch at home, we set out to hunt for new streets and groceries. Today, Maylin and I decided to guide the others back to where we found a department store, a Daiso, a grocery store and – Holly’s Café. There’s actually quite a few of them, and now that we know what they are, we see them everywhere!

We walked along the main road, and even though the rain had stopped, it still looked pretty scary out there!

Remember how we got that new mattress delivered? The set came with a double duvet as well, which the Airbnb didn’t have from before, so now we are on the hunt for a duvet cover to fit. The stores have all sorts of sizes, and we were not sure which size we had. Back in Canada, it’s usually twin, queen and king size duvet covers, but here there are so many options. 105 cm? 125cm? 150cm? 175cm? 195cm??? We decided to not purchase one without knowing the actual measurements, so yet another non-shopping shopping trip.
This exhausted us, so of course we had a snack at Holly’s:

This almond butter toast is not like the almond butter toast I expected! Buttered and sugared toast with chopped almonds! Delicious and unexpected. The girls loved their vanilla soft serves, as usual, and had fun goofing around together.
The grocery store was next. Any grocery store is fun here, however any grocery store where my Google Translate app works, is even funner! i saw an interesting looking baked braided snack, and when the below is the description, you just know I had to try it!

The snack shelves here are on another level. Joe brought me a dark chocolate last week that rivalled the better chocolates of my life, so now I scour all shelves looking for more. It was not here, but they all look interesting!

On our walk back home, Joe stopped by a barbershop to enquire about a haircut. It didn’t take much more than a staircase, and the girls were off goofing around again! I’m loving the connection the two are getting this year! 24/7 together is intense, but I think (and hope) it’s gluing the girls together forever.

The first grocery store was about 20 minute walk from our Airbnb, so we decided Joe and the girls would take the groceries home, while I picked up the dairy products closer to home. Have a look at this grocery store parking lot. Does it look like yours?

This is the store where my translations (because my internet connection) cuts out at the door, but I love browsing here nonetheless. Just look at this amazing little grocery store sushi plate! CA$6? YES PLEASE! But not today.

Because tonight is actual sushi night! We decided to go back to the conveyor belt sushi from our very first night in town. Both girls got the kids set again, and I can’t figure out whether it’s because of the toy they get, or because they find this particular noodle soup delicious?

We had so much good food tonight! There was smoked duck sushi, pork rib sushi, scallops and tuna and salmon! Unfortunately, we devour it all as it comes off the belt, there simply is no time for photos! Except for this piece of eel!

The girls chose red bean dango for dessert again, always a winner! Is it the stick? Is it the colours?

This piece of brûléed sweet potato was sold out last time, so I did not get to try it then. But tonight! Tonight it was all mine! Well, and Joe’s. I think he enjoyed it as well, because he ate most of it before I pointed out what he was doing!

Had to take one more parking lot picture, as the bikes were lined up here as well.

After dinner it was home, showers and some work on the computer.
