Birthday part 2 – Day 107 – Dec 18, 2025

There were four of us in our bed when we went to sleep, but at some point, Joe got sick of being pushed out of bed, so he went to sleep in the girls’ room. More room for us three girls, yay!

The tile fixers were scheduled to come back again today to ensure everything was sealed properly and clean up after themselves, so Téa and I planned to head out right after schoolwork was done. We may have cut some corners to finish in time, and so as the fixer man came in, the two of us went out. Maylin proclaimed that she was spending the entire day at home in her PJs, and so her and Joe hung out at home while the fixer man was there.

I’ve been trying to ignore an ache in a tooth for a while now, hoping that it’ll go away if I just floss a little harder, or brush a little longer. I’ve come to the conclusion that I have to go find myself a dentist… After reading a lot of reviews in the local Facebook groups, and finding the best local offices having month long waitlists, I went with the option with the most dentists available: Bangkok Hospital. Yes yes, it’s here in Hua Hin, but the NAME is Bangkok Hospital.

Téa and I hopped on a green tuktuk bus and got off at the hospital. The greeters told me to go upstairs to the dentists and ask them about their availability, and then come back down to register and set up the appointment with the front desk. Luckily, the dentist receptionists were much more capable than the back and forth processes that the greeters had prepared me for, and I was set up with an appointment. I still have to wait though, but I guess two weeks is better than four?

Once that was all settled, we could get on with our agenda. It was only 10.30am when we emerged from the hospital, so we weren’t quite ready for lunch just yet. We walked five minutes to Bluport mall, where Joe once saw a dental office – somewhere. But first – we need a beverage! Amongst the market vendors we find a smoothie stall, and Téa orders a mango smoothie. It is delicious!

Mango smoothies are life!

NOW we can get on with our search… Téa and I look in the basement, on the ground floor, on the first floor and on the second floor. We can’t find it. I also can’t see it on the directory posted by every escalator and elevator. Big sigh. I guess I’m waiting two weeks for my dentist appointment!

Téa begs, and when she begs, this mom can’t say no. This is how we ended up at The Pizza Company for lunch. I kind of see their big breakfast sign outside and think – oh yes, I can have eggs and bacon! Téa wants pizza, and I really don’t. I convince her that a small pizza, 4 slices personal pizza size is plenty enough, and she is so disappointed when it arrives. It looks like a doll’s pizza! Luckily, it’s tasty enough to make up for it all.

Meat lovers plus pineapple, small but delicious!
They weren’t joking when they said “big breakfast”, there’s so much meat on this plate, I had to leave some behind! (Don’t tell Joe!) Téa helps me with my garlic toast, and some sausage and some bacon. And I help her with one of her pizza slices…

After lunch, we have a couple of things to pick up in the enormous grocery store, before we head back. We actually planned for groceries today, and I have a semi-insulated bag in my backpack today. We can grab the yogurts and frozen elements we’ve been wanting, but not wanting to melt or warm up on our way home. I am also looking for aloe vera, but decide against the lotions that claim to have a pinch of aloe vera added, I’m looking for the real deal. SOMEONE had too much sun yesterday. (Hi, my name is Someone…)

This is a truly large grocery store, but looking at it from afar, it just looks so… dark? It looks like the lights aren’t on, it looks half-done? It’s not as bad once you’re inside the maze of towering shelves, but from the outside looking in, it just doesn’t seem very… inviting. Do you agree?

The store just looks so dark to me! But I had to also show you the tanks of lobsters and crabs. There are about 30 tanks in total!

Once we’ve got our groceries, we cross the street and hop on a tuktuk bus home. We’re home just before 2pm, and Maylin is, as promised, still in her PJs. Both girls had enough of sun and water yesterday, so none of us go swimming today! I think this is our second day in Thailand without dipping even a toe in water? Téa tries to finish some of the English online work we skipped this morning, and Maylin is being rewarded with 10 minutes of video games for every two pages of English work she does in her book. It works for a while, until it doesn’t…

At 5pm, Joe and Téa head to Tamarind market to pick up some dinner. They come home with lots of goodies:

Mussels “Pad Thai” (although I can’t find the noodles?)
Chicken kebab for the girls to share
Joe ordered a Pad See Ew, but asked for it with rice instead of noodles? It may not be conventional, but still tasted good.

After dinner, but before dessert, we FINALLY got to sing Téa her song and present her with her teddy bear cake! I don’t know how I’ll ever bake her anything cuter… But I know for a fact that whatever I make will be tastier!

It’s the outside that counts? Looks matter more than taste? It doesn’t matter, the smile on this girl’s face when she saw her teddy bear cake was PRICELESS!

We have some cake, we watch some tv, and then later on, we dig into the mango sticky rice that Joe bought across the street from the Tamarind market. Two whole mangoes, BLUE sticky rice, crispy bits and a heart-shaped box? I think we’ve found our new favourite vendor!

I’ve said before there’s no such thing as a bad mango sticky rice, but this is an AWESOME mango sticky rice!!

The girls are back in their own bedroom now. After their bathroom was cut to pieces and put back together again, we rooted through all the linens and extras in the condo, and found a better duvet. Their linens are new, their bathroom isn’t a construction zone, but they can’t use the bathroom yet, until tomorrow, so we close the door and pretend they don’t have a bathroom yet.

If we had only known what tomorrow was going to bring with that bathroom…
